Common charcoal is made from peat, coal, wood, petroleum or coconut shells. “Activated charcoal” is similar to common charcoal, but is made for medicinal use. To make activated charcoal, manufacturers will heat common charcoal in the presence of a gas that causes the charcoal to develop a lot of internal spaces or “pores.” These pores help activated charcoal “trap” toxins.
Activated charcoal can help promote a healthy digestion by binding to unwanted gas and toxins and carrying them safely out of the digestive system.
Do you teeth have stains from coffee, tea or wine? Activated charcoal can help to whiten teeth by binding to the plaque which stains teeth.
Note: If you have crowns, caps or porcelain veneers, it’s possible that activated charcoal will stain them. In addition, if your teeth become sensitive, please stop use.
Activated charcoal can also be used externally, it can be used on blemishes.* Activated charcoal binds to these environmental toxins that are causing the problem.*
